Why can't I cancel my passport appointment? ›

NOTE: Passport appointments cannot be viewed, edited or canceled without the confirmation number. If you do not have a confirmation number, please schedule a new appointment.

If you are traveling in less than 10 weeks, you must call the State Department Passport Agency to schedule an appointment: You can call 1-877-487-2778 (1-888-874-7793 TDD/TTY) to schedule an appointment.

Now all offices are passport acceptance facilities, but there are more than 4,800 post offices across the U.S. that allow people to apply for passport renewal. Of course, you can renew by mail from any post office. Find your local office by using the USPS Post Office Locator tool.

The Passport Authority allows 2 rescheduling or cancelling chances in a period of 12 months. This can be done free of cost. However, if you exceed this 2-times limit, your application will be totally cancelled and you have to resubmit a fresh passport application and pay the full fees.

If you are traveling within the next two weeks, you may be able to visit the U.S. Passport Office for same-day or next-day processing.

Make an Appointment at a Passport Agency or Center

Because the total time to get a passport includes processing and mailing times, we do not recommend you mail your application or apply at an acceptance facility if you are traveling in less than 2-3 weeks. Make an appointment at a passport agency or center.

If you are applying for a U.S. Nonimmigrant Visa as a group, you may request interview appointments on the same date and time in case of at least 10 applicants with the same purpose of travelling. Examples of groups include, but are not limited to, professional trainees, performance troops, and tour groups.

The DFA does not allow you to cancel or reschedule a passport appointment date without a code. Only after you pay the processing fee will you receive the payment reference code from the DFA via email.

Skip the post office and avoid long lines. FedEx Office is your one-stop-shop for passport renewals and name change passport updates. You can also apply for new adult passports, child passports, and replace a lost, stolen, or damaged passport. An acceptance agent is still required for those services.

Fortunately, many post offices can accept applications (even if passport renewal at the post office isn't technically an option), and some locations can even take a photo for you for an additional fee. Just make sure to make an appointment before you arrive.

Renew by mail

In general, the easiest way to renew your passport is by mail. You can do this if all of the following apply: You have your passport in your possession (and can submit it with your application). It is undamaged (aside from normal wear and tear).

Prepare and Fill in Required Information

You can get the DFA appointment code from the first application confirmation email sent by the DFA. You must provide these two important information to view your appointment details. Otherwise, you can't change your scheduled appointments without the DFA appointment code.
